Pigmentation

Skin hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition that makes some areas of the skin darker than others. There are many pigmentary conditions ranging from age spots, freckles to melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Since there are many different types of pigmentation, answering the question "how many sessions do I need to remove pigmentation" is challenging and not straightforward.

Pigmentation is a complex skin condition and there are so many variables that have to be taken into consideration when treating pigmentation, such as the type being treated, skin type and healing process.

Acne

Three things cause acne: overactive sebaceous glands (oils), abnormal skin cell turnover, and the rapid proliferation of bacteria that cause blemishes.

Acne affects people of all ages. It is recommend to treat acne early, especially during the first year of acne development. Early acne treatment has many benefits. Besides preventing the development of new scars, it also eliminates some pre-existing scars. As we age, acne scarring can become even worse. Our skin requires the production of new collagen and elastin to repair acne scars. As we age, collagen regeneration in our skin decreases. Ageing skin requires more stimulation to produce enough collagen to smooth scarring.

Oily Skin

An oily skin type can have enlarged pores, shiny texture, and blemishes such as blackheads and pimples. Our skin produces natural oil in the sebaceous glands, known as sebum. This natural oil is crucial for keeping the skin healthy as it helps to lubricate the skin, preventing it from drying out or becoming irritated. It is very common for us to have a certain amount of natural oil as it keeps our skin supple and moisturised. The prime factors responsible for oily skin are genetics, gender, age, diet, and weather conditions.

Rosace

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that affects the face and can worsen with time if left untreated. Rosacea is often mistaken for acne, eczema, or a skin allergy. It is commonly found affecting fair-skinned people or people with a family history of rosacea and those with a history of acne are also more likely to develop the condition. While there is no known cause for rosacea or a permanent cure for this condition, there are a number of ways that can be used to relieve the symptoms.

Rosacea usually starts as mild redness on cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin, and can progress to bumps, pimples, and visible blood vessels. Symptoms can also be stinging or burning sensations, dryness, and flaking of the skin.

There is no clear cause of rosacea, it is believed that a combination of genetic factors and environmental factors are responsible for Rosacea. Things that may triggers Rosacea may be sunlight, stress, hot or cold weather, alcohol, spicy foods, and certain medications.

Dull/Dry Skin

Dull skin or dry skin is a common skin concern.  This may be caused due to lifestyle and environmental factors. A contributing factor is an excessive buildup of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin and low collagen levels. Collagen is an amino acid protein. It is found in the dermis. Collagen makes up 75% of the protein in our skin. It provides strength and structure to our connective tissue. Elastin is another protein found in the dermis. It is responsible for giving structure and support to the skin. More collagen and elastin in your skin can make your skin more vibrant, firm and smooth, giving you a youthful, and healthy look.

Common factors causing dull / dry skin may include:

  • Excessive sunlight exposure without proper protection

  • Lack of moisturiser

  • Insufficient sleep

  • Stress

  • Dehydration

  • Poor diet

  • Excessive alcohol consumption

  • Smoking

  • Dry/Cold/Polluted environment
